Civic Engagement Fellow

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Experience organizing in civic engagement and/or organizing campaigns, especially in economic justice and worker issues

  • Experience in economic justice or labor organizations

  • Knowledge of and experience working in the Asian American/Pacific Islander community: demonstrated cultural competence and ability to interact with the AAPI community with humility and respect

  • Demonstrated passion for working in low-income, working class, and communities of color around social, economic, and racial justice.

  • Strong written and verbal communication skills; a relatable and persuasive communicator/organizer with excellent interpersonal skills

  • Nice to have but not necessary:

    • Asian language skills, especially: Bangla, Hmong, Korean, Vietnamese

    • Experience working in a local or state-based organization

    • Experience working in coalitions

    • Experience with technology like Voter Activation Network, EveryAction, Hustle

Digital Communications Organizer

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Work with the Field Director to build a comprehensive digital program that includes social media, text messages, emails and new emergent platforms to engage community members and convert digital engagement into in-person engagement.

  • Work with the Executive Director to ensure narrative and policy position consistency on campaigns

  • Grow RVAAF and MAAP’s digital audiences across platforms by posting and following up with and engaging followers daily.

  • Planning and executing paid advertising campaigns to increase visibility and engagement for organizing campaigns.

  • Track and report regularly on key performance metrics to demonstrate improved engagement and growth.

  • Find potential members and activists online and further develop those relationships through phone, video, and in-person communications to be folded into organizing programs.

  • Data entry of contacts and engagements into database

  • Develop written content as needed under tight deadlines;

Phone Banker

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Serve on the front lines of a community wellness, census outreach, and voter education program

  • Gauge community needs during COVID-19 and share information on community aid / resources

  • Engage community members on the census by sharing information and collecting completion census pledges; track engagement activities using both qualitative and quantitative methods.

  • Educate voters on state vote-by-mail options and voter rights

  • Participate in trainings and professional development opportunities

  • Ensure that daily, weekly and monthly goals are met and exceeded.

  • Adhere to all data security and privacy protocols.

Youth Leadership & Civic Engagement Fellows 

Be a part of our AAPI Youth Leadership & Civic Engagement Fellowship Inaugural Cohort! This program is an 8-week paid program running from July - August 2020, geared towards young Michiganders between 16 to 20 years old who are interested in AAPI leadership and civic engagement. Throughout the eight weeks, fellows will:

  • Learn critical AAPI history

  • Reflect on their personal identities, values, and leadership

  • Add to the body of knowledge about AAPI communities by conducting oral interviews/collecting evidence of community history

  • Discuss and understand current events through anti-racist and anti-oppression curriculum

  • Familiarize themselves with local electoral politics, including campaign and legislative processes in Michigan

  • Learn strategies to organize AAPI communities 

  • Practice community organizing through digital organizing, phone banking
