Our hearts are broken today.

We are grieving the three lives lost in last night’s shooting at MSU and we are praying for those injured as they recover. We are sending love to families of the victims and the Spartan community.

Students deserve to go to school without fear of being caught in a mass shooting. Rising Voices calls on our elected officials to take swift action to prevent another act of senseless gun violence from terrorizing and traumatizing our communities again.

We have compiled a list of resources for those in need of support at this time, including culturally competent and accessible mental health services. Together, our loved ones and communities can find solace, safety, and a pathway to healing.

LAND ACKNOWLEDGEMENT: Rising Voices is based in stolen occupied territories called Waawiiyaataanong, named by the Anishinaabeg and includes the Three Fires Confederacy of Ojibwe (Chippewa), Odawa (Ottawa), and Bodewatomi (Potawatomi) peoples. We acknowledge that Asian American immigration is part of the history of settler colonialism and  that all Indigenous peoples have and continue to be forcibly removed from their homelands. Rising Voices stands in solidarity with Black and Indigenous communities who continue to be systemically excluded and oppressed through the ongoing damaging effects of settler colonialism, genocide, and myths of white supremacy.
